Washed up ruins

My first-ever photo-taking excursion was with my friend Caela while we were living in San Francisco. It was seven years ago already. Caela had spied these ruins of an old public bathroom that had fallen when the cliffside gave way and had since been graffitied.

The site is a place called Land's End. It's at the tip of the San Francisco peninsula overlooking the strait where the San Francisco Bay meets the Pacific Ocean. In the top photo, you can see the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance. To get down to the beach, we had to follow a long and windy path and step over a lot of obstacles. We'd timed it so we could watch the sun set over the Pacific Ocean, which was great, except when we found ourselves having to follow the same long and windy path back out in the dark. Obviously, we made it out safely.

I'm participating in the Photo Hunt today with the theme Ruin(ed).

  2. I know that graffiti is a problem, but it sometimes can be very artistic and beautiful. Great ruins photo. I invite you to come see my ruins in the bush of Coastal BC. -- Margy

  3. That is really awesome and I like the graffiti. It's nice that we have a once a month beach cleanup, though I would have loved to have seen these ruins.

BTW thanks for commenting on my blog.

  5. Oh it reminds me of the vampire hideout in the film Lost Boys, which means I love it :)

There is also a Land's End in the UK too, the very tip of Cornwall.

  6. Very nice Haley.I am fascinated with the graffiti. I don't know why I find graffiti interesting in photos because I think it ruins everything in reality.

But in a photo it is always such an interesting subject to me. Maybe it's because living way out in the boonies I just never see any anymore!!
