Earlier this month I was at a local park when I saw this kid ride by on his bicycle. It was a rainy, cold day, and this boy was riding along the top of the retaining wall next to the lake. It's not nearly a gentle shoreline like it looks in this photo.
I didn't want to be obvious that I was taking his photo, so I kept my camera down near my waist, pointed it in his direction, and took several photos, hopeful that I had him in frame.
This is what turned out. I like the angle, so I didn't rotate the photo. I also like the blurred effect in some areas, which I think are from rainwater on my lens. The only tinkering I did with this photo was to apply an Orton-ish effect through Picnik.com. (If you'd like to see the original, click here.) I think this photo has a general dreamy mood, and I like it. I hope you do, too.

I agree..this photo does have a dreamy effect. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely dreamy. And a nice image! I have played the "shoot it from whatever angle" to capture the moment. Nicely done! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteExcellent composition, very proffesional!
ReplyDeleteExcellent job, looks like something out of a photo mag, well done.
ReplyDeleteI don't like the dreamy effect being used on every photo (I know someone who does it) but I really like it here; and I love the angle on this one!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome soft and shiny, nice job!
ReplyDeleteI have been experimenting with a tilted camera as well lately. Normally my balance is off just a bit anyway, so I thought why not go for it all the way. Great angle!!
ReplyDeleteLove the emotion in the shot.
I need to start trying some different angles and see what I can get. This is a lovely picture!
ReplyDeleteGiven the angle, it looks as if the rider needs to lean into the shore to keep steady. The kid is confident of staying out of the drink. The effect is surreal, the angles and misty quality keeps the viewer busy with determining the correct mood...
ReplyDeleteI love the outcome - the ancle is perfect!
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
This photo came out great, at such an unusual angle. You were right in not rotating it.
ReplyDeleteInteresting photo! It does have a dream-like quality to it. Good luck in Roger's contest!
It is very dreamlike. Beautiful colors and blurring effects. All in all a great photo!!
