Wordless Wednesday: Storm Damage

I know this is supposed to be wordless, but I can't help myself.

With all this wild weather we've been having in the Midwest, a tree falling in our backyard seems very trivial.

Amazingly, both my husband and I watched this tree come down. We were looking out the back window watching the trees sway furiously in the wind during a storm, then heard a giant "crack" and watched the top of the tree fall off. Fortunately, it landed in the center of the yard and didn't damage anything, although it was inches from one of my new rose bushes.

When the weather cleared about 30 minutes later, we borrowed a chain saw and quickly had the tree to the curb for collection by the village.

If you look at the bottom photo, you can see where the tree cracked. It's way at the top of the photo, about 20 feet up the tree trunk.

OH wow!! I'm glad nothing was damaged... too bad about the tree though :( they can only handle so much I guess.

I think Wordless Wednesday should be named "Picture Wednesday" lol :-)

I used to sleep through storms without a problem. Once we moved out to Cowland, high winds keep me awake at night because I always worry about trees coming down on the house. We've taken care of most of the dead or half-dead ones that posed risk.

Glad your place didn't suffer any damage. Looks like your neighbor will need to borrow the chainsaw too.

  9. @Lisa365 -- I totally agree about the Picture Wednesday thing. BTW, where was your WW post this week?

@Cynthia Blue -- Thanks, me too!

@The Hunter's Wife -- Me too. Fortunately for us, it was the neighbor's tree, so we don't have to worry about stump removal.

@Daisy -- Thanks, the timing was fortuitous.

@Kristie -- Thanks! (I'm in the Chicago area, btw)

@Claire -- Why, yes, that is the hubster. And thank you very much for feeding his ego...

@Ana -- The neighbors say the tree used to be part of a farmer's treeline. Since the subdivision was built almost 30 years ago, the tree had to be fairly old. A weed tree, but still old.

@Periapex -- The neighbors were out of town, so we took care of the part of the tree in our yard. The rest is their problem. They said they just spent $1,200 having all those trees trimmed up a year ago. We love the shade those trees give us. I hate to see any more go.
