At Large: My American accent

This result was dead-on accurate for me.

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Inland North

You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop."

  1. First, it's probably time to take my keyboard home again to wash it (it's the Microsoft Office model, which I dearly love and they stopped making because I love it so much).

Second... w00t! I have the same accent (or non-accent), which only makes sense as I'm from Chicago, too.

Third, thanks for yesterday's link love! :)

  2. @Aerten -- You can take the girl out of Chicago, but you can't take Chicago out of the girl?

Also, how does one wash a keyboard? Mine is looking pretty nasty. Good thing I don't have to share it with anyone. All the germs are at least mine. :)

  4. @Lisa -- Now you've got me thinking that we should start a video-blog meme just so we can actually put voices to the bloggers... but what would be a good video-blog topic? How would you do a video-blog meme? Hmmm... And would anyone actually do it if tagged?

  5. hi haley, in Switzerland, as tiny as it is, they've got over hundred different dialects. you drive a few killometers away from your town and people are already calling things by differnt names, not to mention the pronounciation. it's crazy but they all seem to understand each other and the dialect/accent gives away where you come from.

you are a writer! that's awesome! i currently read two blogs which publish short stories (one even claims they are based on true events) i thought maybe you'd like to check them out.

  6. No, I guess you can't take the Chicago out of the girl... except on Accent Day, when you just never know what I'm going to sound like.

And I wash my keyboard by popping off each and every key, cleaning them individually, cleaning out the "bed" and then putting it all back together again. Most people find it easier to just go buy a new keyboard. :)

  7. @Laney -- Thanks for the short-story blog suggestions. I'll have to check them out.

@Aereten -- You must really love that keyboard to go to all that work. I think I'll probably just request a new keyboard for myself here at the office.
